What is Direct Primary Care?

Direct Primary Care represents a desire to return to a more traditional – or classic – way of practicing medicine. We believe that healthcare should be focused on you and individualized for you, without any outside pressures that have come between the relationship of a provider and patient. Our providers have much smaller patient panels (600 patients per provider, as compared to 2000-2500 patients per provider in a standard medical practice) and are not constrained by the typical fee-for-service requirements, which allows you to have truly unique access to your provider.

Without the confusing billing and coding done through insurance companies, patients enjoy transparent pricing with no hidden or unexpected costs – as well as no copays or deductibles! We are also able to provide routine labs and arrange for radiology studies at a deeply discounted rate for those who choose to bypass insurance and pay out of pocket.

What is included with membership?

Trying to navigate in the traditional medical model can be a frustrating experience, which is why DPC clinics such as Integrity Direct Primary Care represent such a unique and refreshing experience. As a member, you will immediately be entitled to many features and benefits, all for an affordable, transparent monthly fee with no co-pays or deductibles. See below for a list of what is included with your membership.

  • Convenient 24/7 direct access to your provider by phone, text, email, virtual visits, and/or same or next day office visits. Home or office visits when available.

  • Annual comprehensive physical exam with age appropriate labs (up to $850 value per person – Women’s health services are provided through additional services to ensure comprehensive care).

  • Sick visits, follow-up visit, and chronic disease management with no copays or deductibles.

  • Little to no wait time upon arrival to the office for appointments. Limited exposure to others as appointments are staggered to prevent overlapping of patients in the office at one time.

  • Healthcare delivered by your own independent and experienced Board Certified primary care provider. As your advocate, your provider will make sure that if required, you are referred to the specialist that best meets your needs, instead of being driven by administrators and quotas.

  • Relaxed and extended visits focused on developing a strong patient provider relationship allowing time for thorough investigation of presenting complaints, clear explanation of any planned diagnostic evaluation, and detailed recommendations for treatment.

  • Basic in-office procedures and tests such as EKGs, hemoglobin A1c, urinalysis, strep/flu testing, cryotherapy, and some joint injections are included in your membership and provided at no extra cost.

  • Wholesale lab prices up to 90% less than standard insurance prices.

  • Negotiated imaging (radiology) studies that can be 50% less than insurance prices (completed at off-site facilities - we do not have radiology services in-office).

Ben Butler, MD

Ben Butler, MD

Dr. Ben Butler is a Georgia native, UGA graduate, and board-certified internal medicine physician who believes the best medicine is built on a long-term relationship between patient and doctor. His goal is not simply to treat illness, but to help patients understand their health, prevent disease, and build habits that support a healthier life for years to come.

Dr. Butler earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia and completed his Internal Medicine residency at UAB–Montgomery, where he served as Chief Resident and Junior Faculty. He then completed fellowship training in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine in Roanoke, Virginia.

After returning to Athens in 2022, Dr. Butler spent four years caring for patients with both common chronic conditions and some of the most complex and serious illnesses in medicine. His experience caring for critically ill patients gave him a unique perspective on the importance of what happens before someone becomes seriously ill and reinforced his belief that proactive, accessible primary care can make a meaningful difference in long-term health.

Today, Dr. Butler combines his experience in pulmonary and critical care with a personalized approach to primary care. He emphasizes prevention, accessibility, and truly knowing his patients while using evidence-based medicine to help them take an active role in their health. His background provides particular expertise in respiratory conditions such as asthma, COPD, chronic cough, shortness of breath, and sleep-related concerns. He approaches these conditions as part of the bigger picture, recognizing the connections between lung, cardiovascular, and metabolic health, as well as sleep, nutrition, fitness, and lifestyle.

Dr. Butler believes excellent medicine requires trust, clear communication, and shared decision-making. He wants his patients to have a physician who knows them, is accessible when they need him, and is invested in their health for the long term.

Dr. Butler and his wife have three children and are grateful to call Watkinsville and the Greater Athens community home. Since returning to Athens, Dr. Butler has been involved with Mercy Health Center and graduate medical education programs at Piedmont Athens Regional and St. Mary’s Hospital. Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time outdoors, coaching his children’s sports teams, and cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs.

Adam White, MD

Adam White, MD

Dr. Adam White is board-certified in emergency medicine and is passionate about helping people build lasting health rather than simply treating disease. He earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia (2010) and completed his residency and Global Health fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham(2014), where he also trained in public health, tropical medicine, and travel medicine. After years of caring for patients in the emergency department, Dr. White developed a deep appreciation for the importance of prevention and addressing the root causes of illness. His approach to care focuses on whole-person health—recognizing that physical, emotional, relational, and spiritual well-being are deeply connected. He enjoys partnering with patients to create individualized health plans centered on lifestyle, nutrition, movement, and sustainable habits, while thoughtfully using medications when needed. He believes that creating space for patients to be heard is an essential part of care. Dr. White and his wife also founded Generations Health, a ministry dedicated to providing holistic healthcare, retreats, and wellness training for missionaries and their families. Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife and children, tending a small tree orchard and nursery, fly fishing, and hiking.

Transform your DNA insights into a highly personalized plan for optimizing energy, performance, and long-term health. Using consumer genetic data (e.g., AncestryDNA), Adam identifies key patterns in methylation, detoxification, inflammation, metabolism, and recovery—then translates them into targeted nutrition, supplement, exercise, and lifestyle strategies.

Each consultation includes a comprehensive genetic review, custom report, and a 60–90 minute one-on-one session with a printed take-home plan, delivered in a focused, coaching-style format designed for real-world implementation.

This service is educational and wellness-focused, not diagnostic or medical genetic analysis.

Amber Herring, PA

Amber Herring, Physician Assistant

Amber Herring is a Physician Assistant with 15 years of experience in emergency medicine. After years in the fast-paced ER environment, she developed a strong passion for helping patients pursue more balanced, preventative health and addressing the root causes of illness rather than simply treating symptoms in the moment.

She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science from the University of Georgia and her Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies from the Medical College of Georgia in 2009. Amber is committed to building meaningful relationships with patients through compassionate, personalized care and by taking the time to truly listen to their concerns.

A key strength of the practice is its team-based approach to care. Dr. White and Amber worked together in the emergency department for more than 10 years, where he came to value her clinical excellence, compassionate approach, and dedication to relationship-based medicine. Together, they strive to provide patients with accessible, high-quality, personalized healthcare.

Amber is a wife and mother of three, and her faith plays an important role in both her life and the way she cares for others.

FAQ’S

Direct Primary Care, or DPC, is a model of healthcare that puts patients first by getting rid of the red tape by which most other traditional practices are restricted.

The terms are often used interchangeably and essentially refer to the same principles. Direct Primary Care is a healthcare model focused on putting the patient first. That means treating them when they need it, never rushing patients through appointments, and being proactive with healthcare treatment plans. The provider-patient relationship is just as the name suggests – direct. Direct Primary Care clinics don’t accept insurance, rather they choose to work directly with the patient, providing wholesale labs and other costs savings along the way. Concierge medicine, on the other hand, is a hybrid model that continues to bill insurance while still charging the patient an additional fee. On top of this, copays and deductibles are still the responsibility of the patient. Direct Primary Care does not bill insurance, and there are no deductibles or copays.

We have cut the red tape of bureaucracy. The restrictions that typically leave providers in a traditional healthcare setting buried in nonsense paperwork are lifted through Direct Care, allowing us to spend our time where it really counts: with patients. In refusing to recognize any interference with the sanctity of the patient-provider relationship, we have returned the practice of medicine to its root values of clinical excellence for and compassionate knowledge of every patient. In every aspect of healthcare, and custom healthcare, we promise accessibility, convenience, and affordability.

Of course. We might argue that everyone benefits from a service tailored directly to them. That’s why we offer truly custom healthcare. Our practice is devoted to the maintenance of your good health, to the enhancements of your daily experience that only physical well-being can bring. We’re here for your reactive needs. But proactive healthcare is important, and we’re here for that, too.

At Integrity DPC, we have the gift of time. Even better? We get to give the gift of time. Large amounts of precious, irretrievable time given to you as you wish. Every visit, for whatever reason, will be easygoing in its absolute thoroughness, relaxed in answering your questions and addressing the need of the moment. Then, as the months and years go by, we’ll build a comprehensive, intimate knowledge of your health, invaluable understanding available in no other regimen of care.

No, and we think that’s a good thing. Perhaps the most critical distinction in our model of care centers on a direct, personal relationship between you and your provider. That directness carries over to our business model as well. While the tender mercies of an insurance company might apply to the fixing of a damaged fender on your automobile, we see no reason for any insurer to have a voice about either the quality or the cost of your care.

We forgo insurance payments in order to save our patients from the arbitrary, intrusive decisions that inevitably follow with third-party payors. Furthermore, this direct fee-for-services arrangement frees us from the typical contractual agreements that prevent providers from offering wholesale prices on laboratory tests, imaging, and medications.

Yes. We recommend our patients have insurance to pay for emergency room and hospital care, surgeries, and other services that are outside of primary care that are not included in your membership. Many patients find that they save considerably by purchasing a high deductible health plan.

Absolutely. In some cases, families have been able to save nearly $1000/month while enjoying a higher level of care.

Yes! Medicare requires that you sign a form every 2 years declaring that neither you nor your provider will directly bill Medicare for our services. Medicare will still cover any laboratory testing, imaging, medications, or hospitalizations prescribed by our offices.

In providing superb care with unprecedented access, we seek to prevent or reduce hospitalizations and specialty referrals. In instances where those types of care are required, we will certainly communicate closely with your hospitalist during your hospital stay as well as work closely with any specialist. In some cases, depending on the level of care and the sorts of expertise required, we may rely on those specialized caregivers to manage your treatment.

By all means, yes! Because illness and injury do not respect regular office hours, you may contact your provider any day, at any hour. Your provider is immediately available for any urgent/emergent issues, and will get back with you promptly for any non-urgent issues. We are happy to arrange for video visits and even home visits, schedule permitting. It’s how we do custom healthcare.
